– Gerry Hobbs - Well, they were not exactly blowouts but, after winning by 4-, 3- and 3-runs, the home standing Sacramento Solons were pretty confident in picking up a series sweep, especially since something or somebody named F. Papish was scheduled to pitch game four for the visiting Wilderness Wraiths. Now, his friends call him "Grade 1" Papish -- well, not to his face, but that's what they call him, privately. The problem for Sacramento is that this "Grade 1 Papish guy" pitched an absolute gem, a 5-hit shutout, and the Wraiths took the series finale', as they say "going away", by a 5-0 score. Gene Woodling was injured early in game one (9 game DL), while Pat Mullin ran into exactly the same fence for Sacramento in game four (11 game DL). Woodling's injury crippled the Wilderness offense this series while Mullins' injured bodes ill for the Solon's offense going forward. Steve Lyon – In the final series of the season, Fortney and Kilkenny split. Early Wynn picks up his 21st win in style by tossing a 1 hitter with 11 strikeouts. Phil Rizzuto loses a couple points in the batting title race finishing the season at .366 with 233 hits. Bob Wood - Taken in 1951, celebrating 75 years of the National League at Toots Shor's restaurant. A couple (Arlie Latham and Kid Nichols) pre-date even Origins. A few came later… Marty Fiehl - Great Picture, Bob! That front row looks a lot like
