History Brief: The Franchise #12 began play in 1902 as the Cleveland Naps. The team moved to Morgantown in 1977 after two seasons in Potsdam under caretaker Glenn Fuller while GM Gerry Hobbs toured Europe. Hobbs had purchased the team on the cheap from Gettysburg's Jesse Elicker after the 1974 season. Upon Hobbs' return, at which time he announced that he was "as fit as a bull moose and ready for the race," he took the team to the hills of West Virginia, where they remain today. Gerry Hobbs was no stranger to TCBA and Franchise #12, having operated a Franchise #12 team in Cleveland from 1902-1920, and from 1925 to 1962 as the Sacramento Solons. Hobbs sold the franchise to Baltimore financier Walter MacEachern just prior to the 1963 season. Twelve years later, Hobbs retook control of the franchise from Elicker.
