History Brief:
Representing Franchise #15, Hereford was an
original TCBA Origins team. Led by Doc Lyon, the Highlanders provided
quality entertainment for the local fans until 1920. At that time, however,
the lure of moonshine, short skirts and automobiles became too much of a
distraction for young Doc Lyon, who swapped the team to Canadian Ed
Hebscher in exchange for a Canadian whiskey recipe. Hebscher moved the team
north of the border to Newmarket before selling out to New Hampshire native
Casey Lyman. Casey led his whiskey-swilling Pubdwellers into the heart
of the tough Depression years. With war
looming, Lyman left TCBA Franchise #15 in the hands of Steve Lyon, whose
Franchise #15 Regnads lived dangerously in the Chesapeake region from 1936
until 1942.
After making
Grand Rapids its home for 20 years before heading out to Iowa for another
50 seasons, Franchise #14 moved to Boulder Bluff in 1970 before disbanding
in 1972. A troubled franchise after that, the team would join the dark side
as Winnebago in 1979 and change hands eight times before cleansing itself
and settling down as the Lawton
Angels in 2007. Not entirely pure, the Angels fell
into the hands of Hereford Highlander
Steve Lyon in 2012, whose careful grooming brought the Highlanders to a
division crown in 2017.
