Ruth to Join 600 Club?

In TCBA history, only four hitters had reached the 600-Homer Club: all-time leader Hank Aaron (791), Barry Bonds (784), Alex Rodriguez (653), and Willie Mays (631). However, there is now another big sultan of swat who has pushed his way through the 600 Clubhouse door.

 On Tuesday, July 23^rd, Babe Ruth came off the bench to pinch hit in the top of the 9^th against 28-year old righthander Vern Kennedy. The Mirthmakers trailed the Waukesha Freemen 6-4 at the time. In his 64^th plate appearance of the season, Ruth connected solidly on the first pitch he saw and watched from home plate as the ball sailed over the rightfield wall, giving Ruth a memorable 600^th trot around the bases. The Mirthmakers ended up losing the game 6-5, but the celebration surrounding Ruth’s momentous achievement far outweighed any agony of defeat for Larry Smith’s Mimosa team.
