News of
the Times - 1902 In July, the Baltimore Orioles were forced to forfeit a game to St. Louis and their team to the league. With only five players available for the line-up, the American League's front office borrowed back-up players from several other teams and maintained the franchise for the remainder of the season. The
first Origins efforts have been
completed, thanks to the rapid response from all of you. The teams and
divisions are posted below. Jeff Sajdak has selected the Grand Rapids
Wolverines, a Western League team from the era. Gerry has chosen the
Cleveland Naps in a blatant attempt to entice Nap Lajoie
to sign with his team. Aaron Anderson has selected Buffalo to base his team,
a city that was the 6th largest in the country at the time of Origins inaugural season. The Mules
will pay tribute to the remarkable 19th Century engineering
achievement, the Erie Canal. And JR will allow us to travel overseas when we
visit his home city of Turin, the commute to Italy being part of his strategy
for making it hard on road
teams. Finally, Newton will keep it in
the family borrowing the Buccs moniker from Covington.
Gary Sibley may need to limber up (or use some
earned strategic wisdom) as he finds himself in a race with the younger generation.
– Hey, Gary! It’s too early for Yogi, but maybe some pre-season yoga will get
your Wraiths ready for the run! Here’s the line-up:
Tweeks Over
the next few months, we will reveal various aspects of Origins designed to enhance your enjoyment and facilitate ease of
play. This week’s tidbits follow: *
Origins will begin with a full
stocking draft, serpentine in nature. Woody’s customary use of lottery
numbers to determine drafting slots will be used for the initial draft. *
Subsequent drafts will be in reverse order of finish, with no Bonus or HRV
rounds. A Feeble Four will be included. (For those new to TCBA retro
activity, the four teams with the worst record enter a lottery to determine
draft picks #1-4.) *
Origins will us WAR as the player
value system. *
A firm salary cap of $25.0 will be
used. *
A Player-Manager will be used, along with at least one Super-sub. For those
not familiar with the Super-sub, a player that meets the Innocuous
requirements is designated as a Super-sub and is appointed defensive grades
at all 9 positions to permit adequate roster flexibility for all teams. *
All innocuous position players will be designated PR930. *
All pitchers Grade 3 and less, and Grades 4W and 5W, will be assigned 900 MBF. *
Roster size will initially be limited to 20
players, raising the limit at an appropriate future time. A To-Do for You TCBA
retro veterans know all about the Player-manager. In Origins, each team will use a personalized Player-manager (with
an Innocuous card) to provide adequate roster flexibility. Your assignment is
to name your manager and
notify either Bob Braun or Bob Wood of your naming decision. Please, even if
you already have a manager, let us know if you plan to keep him or not. Here’s
a list of who’s been who:
