Welcome
to Origins, a TCBA venture into
the early years of the 20th Century. With 16 fellow travelers, Origins is expecting to launch later
this winter. A newsletter will publish periodically over the next few months,
revealing details of the Origins
activity, and occasionally requesting action from our members.
This
initial newsletter is being sent to the Origins
group to let you know who has joined up. Here’s the line-up:

We
are especially delighted to have Steve, JR and Aaron joining us on our
journey. The young blood is appreciated! We also are happy to have the
Founder with us for what is expected to be the final TCBA retro experiment.
In a linear sense, Origins will
detail the very beginnings of TCBA history. Having Jim Lafargue with us,
then, is wholly appropriate.
A To-Do for You
Your
very first Origins activity is to select a team name. We will be aligning
ourselves into four divisions of four teams each, preliminarily arranged as
seen to the left:
The
team names listed have been used for familiarity. Some, like Hyde Park and
Bradenton will remain the same. Others may change, depending on your own
preference. Note that Jim Lafargue has already selected Boston Beaneaters for his Origins
team.
One
of the enjoyable aspects of TCBA is its extensive history. Having had 81
managers, there has been a fascinating trail of TCBA franchises that ties it
all together. To help keep track of it all, teams have been assigned to
Franchises. Some, like Bob Wood’s Bradenton, Jim Mac’s Islanders and Larry’s Mirthmakers have maintained their team name throughout
the entire time. Others, like Mexicali, Hyde Park and others have used two names to
distinguish Today from the retro leagues. Some, due to managerial turnover,
have had many team names. For those teams, it might be helpful to be familiar
with your Franchise history. A list of team names associated with our
Franchise is posted below.
Choose
a team name and inform either Bob Braun or Bob Wood sometime in the next
week. We will publish the names as soon as we have a complete list.

News of
the Times - 1901
As President William McKinley began his
second term, he was fatally shot by anarchist Leon Czolgosz.
Czolgosz stated that the President was "an
enemy of good working people" and was later judged to be sane and
executed.
The chief event of McKinley's
administration was the war with Spain, which resulted in the United States'
acquisition of the Philippines and other islands.
Theodore Roosevelt was promptly sworn in
as his successor and embarked on a wide-ranging program of governmental
reform and conservation of natural resources.
