Ocala Egrets – 1943-1949

Don Hirsch, GM

Franchise #21

History Brief: Originally begun as the Norfolk Pilots, the team was sold to the Beeman Group in 1935 when Norfolk owner Dan Warren began a military career. The team was later purchased from the Beeman Group in 1942, freeing JB Beeman to support the war effort. The new owner, industrialist Don Hirsch, moved the team to Ocala, Florida, where the team stayed until 1950. At that time, attorney Jim Lafargue used his influence to seize control of the franchise and move it to the Jersey shore. However, in 1954, Dan Warren ended his military career and repurchased the franchise and moved it back to his beloved Norfolk, where the team enjoyed spectacular success until Warren’s departure from TCBA after the 2011 season. Franchise #21 is currently resident in Edinburgh.
