Mays Triple Crown

Mexicali's Willie Mays has accomplished what no player in TCBA has ever done before - win the Triple Crown! Leading the league in home runs (51), runs batted in (163), and batting average .382), Mays put an exclamation point on a career that has already established him as one of the greatest players in TCBA history. Although players have won two of the categories more than 30 times, none have ever conquered all three.

The Mallard's General Manager Al Keefer was all smiles when he was asked about Mays, who is known locally in Mexicali as "The Say Hey Kid."

"It's quite an honor for "The Say Hey Kid", who has played his entire TCBA career for the Mexicali Mallard franchise," gushed Keefer. "As Willie heads into his final TCBA seasons, the Mallards team and fans consider it special that they have had the pleasure of watching Mays roaming center field for his entire career."

To friend and foe alike, Willie must be considered one of the super stars of TCBA, according to Keefer. "To have him win the Triple Crown, when all the TCBA greats before him have been unable to accomplish it, is a mark to be proud of."

Throughout the season, Mays' toughest battle seemed to be with Sacramento's fine outfielder, Don Mueller, who was neck-and-neck with Willie for the highest batting average; but Willie pulled away in the closing weeks to edge out Mueller .382 to .376.

Gazing into the future, it can be safely predicted that there will not be another Triple Crown performance for at least another 56 years, and probably longer. It is, indeed, a rare feat; but everyone seems to agree that it couldn't have been accomplished by a more deserving player.
